GIVE HAPPY LIVE HAPPY
THIS WEEK IS NATIONAL VOLUNTEERS WEEK
Established in 1989, National Volunteer Week is the
largest celebration of volunteers and volunteerism in
Australia, and provides an opportunity to highlight the
role of volunteers in our community and to say thank
you to the more than 6 million Australians who
volunteer.
Volunteers give happiness to others each year. And
research says that that those volunteers are happier
as a result. So this National Volunteer Week (8-15
May 2017), help us make Australia the happiest place
on earth, by giving as much of your time as you can.
Give Happy. Live Happy.
Formal volunteering is an activity which takes place
through not for profit organisations or projects and is
undertaken:
• to be of benefit to the community and the
volunteer;
• of the volunteer’s own free will and without coercion;
• for no financial payment; and
• in designated volunteer positions only.
Guiding Principles of Volunteering
• Volunteering benefits the community and the
volunteer;
3
McIntosh, Rick Priest • Volunteer work is unpaid;
• Volunteering is always a matter of choice;
• Volunteering is not compulsorily undertaken to
receive pensions or government allowances;
• Volunteering is a legitimate way in which citizens
can participate in the activities of their community;
• Volunteering is a vehicle for individuals or groups to
address human, environmental and social needs;
• Volunteering is an activity performed in the not for
profit sector only;
• Volunteering is not a substitute for paid work;
• Volunteers do not replace paid workers nor
constitute a threat to the job security of paid workers;
• Volunteering respects the rights, dignity and culture
of others; and
• Volunteering promotes human rights and equality

Treasurer David Pyke gave an update on club
finances. The club is having another good year with
successful events
providing $38000 to be donated to community
projects, $14000 for the DEFIB project and reserves

Guest Speaker Mr Mac Armitage
Mac gave an interesting retelling of his "Fortunate
Life", and recommends reading the A B Faceys' book.
From rough and tumble beginnings jackarooing around
Australia Mac gave painted a picture of a life well lived
on the
land - from Scone to Braidwood to Adaminaby to
Wagga, with an overseas posting to Tassie along the
way!
Mac loves the Wagga area and is easing into
retirement.
Mac is chairman of Riverina Bluebell and a passionate
supporter of its message of mental health awareness,
especially to the youth of our area.
