Wollundry Rotary Noel Barnes Scholarship
This scholarship provides for an assistance grant to year 11 students from high schools in Wagga Wagga. The scholarship was established in 1983 in memory of the late Noel Barnes, a guiding figure in the formation of the Rotary Club of Wollundry, Wagga Wagga, the first lunchtime club in the city.
Scholarship guidelines:
1. The award is for a student entering Year 11 and intending to complete Year 12 (including
VET programs). Only one new scholarship at each of the participating high schools in Wagga
Wagga is awarded each year.
2. The total value of the Scholarship is $1100. This is paid in two amounts of $550 with the first
in Term 1 of Year 11 and the second in Term 1 of Year 12.
3. Selection of the recipient will be at the Principal’s discretion, with a demonstrated financial
need being the primary consideration. The pupil should be of good character.
4. Students receiving Aus-study or other scholarships should not be considered.
Letters are sent to the high schools in the first week of the school year asking principals for selections with the nominations to be received by the end of March each year. The principal of each school is the sole arbiter in the selection process.
Identity of the awardees remains confidential however, the sponsored schools conduct a private presentation to the student with appropriate reference to the history of the Wollundry Rotary Noel Barnes scholarship.
